Friday – January 12th – Revelation 18:17a -----
17a) In a single moment all the wealth of the city is gone!”…
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
ALL BLESSINGS CARRY RESPONSIBILITY, SO DON’T PRAY FOR THE FIRST IF YOU’RE NOT READY FOR THE SECOND.*
Hello Friday! The chilly weather this weekend seems like a perfect reason to promote our “SunRise Chili Cook Off” on Sunday January 28th starting at 11am. If you're someone who loves to stir the pot and whip up some mouthwatering chili, we invite you to showcase your culinary skills by bringing in your best chili recipe. Whether you have a secret family blend of spices, or a unique twist on traditional ingredients that sets your chili apart, this is the perfect opportunity to showcase your skills. Get ready to spice things up! Sign up today on the SunRise events page (website or app) and bring your award-winning chili in your crockpot to share with others. We also need folks to eat these great offerings and to enjoy fellowship with other SunRise folks. You can also sign up on the events page for the ever-important role of eating.
Today’s pick verse is only a half verse, because for some reason unknown to modern day readers of Revelation the focus shifts mid-verse from the merchants to the sea captains. The first part of verse seven simply records the suddenness in which the wealth of the merchants and powerbrokers disappears. For them, the real and catastrophic tragedy was both a personal and professional loss. To make matters worse, John records that in a “moment” their great wealth has been brought to ruin. A modern comparison would be if the world’s collective stock markets all crashed to zero at the same time. From investment banker to the average joe investor a sense of complete and utter loss would be felt. A good lesson to take from this is to ask ourselves where or in what do we place our security? Is it in things that are perishable or in things that are eternal?
Blessings
