In our pick verse today, John continues to record the devastating effects of the trumpet judgements of God. Among the greatest losses encountered is the expectation that life, even life lived exclusively for self, will end abruptly. Nothing more accurately indicates the safety of home than the friendly light of a lamp at night. Babylon is now dark, a place not fit for homelife, but for evil creatures of the night. Additionally, the voice of laughing, merriment, celebrations, that of bride and groom will never be heard again. This all signals the total collapse of domestic life in this deranged dominion of secular civilization. While earthly marriage celebrations will cease, by contrast all Heaven is preparing for the holy city for the joyous wedding of the Lamb of God.
