Thursday – February 22nd – Revelation: Past, Present or Future -----
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
IDOLATRY IS ANYTHING THAT COOLS YOUR DESIRE FOR CHRIST.*
Happy Thursday to you! Our inspirational thought for today is a keeper in my book. Yes, it speaks directly to our priorities and our individual pursuit of things in this life, and it also serves as a reminder to me that we are in the season of Lent. And yes, it is that time of the church year when we are working to re-shape our lives to be more like Jesus. For me the greatest obstacle in my path to be more Jesus like are the idols that the devil uses to tempt me with. I am reminded that James says when we resist the devil he will flee. When the devil is on the run it clears our path for Jesus to shape our lives.
Today we wrap up our side-trip through the interpretations of some of the more confusing parts of the Revelation. Today we take a step back and outline the three major views of the “when” of Revelation. For our purposes today, we will only give a high comparative overview of each perspective. “Preterism” teaches that all of the the events of Revelation were fulfilled by AD 70 – the destruction of the Holy Temple in Jerusalem. “Futurism” believes that the events of Revelation await a future, end-times fulfillment during the tribulation and beyond. “Historicism” falls between preterism and futurism in its approach: according to historicism, most of Revelation is symbolic of persons and events in world history. The book of Revelation was a prophecy when John wrote it, according to historicists, but most of the book has already been fulfilled in our day. There is a fourth view that is much less endorsed in modern day theological but noteworthy in case you might run across it – “idealism” suggests the events of Revelation are entirely symbolic of and contained within the cosmic struggle between good and evil. I wonder if there is an emoji for a head swirling?
Blessings
