Friday – February 23rd – Revelation 20:4b      -----

20:4) Then I saw thrones, and the people sitting on them had been given the authority to judge. And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their testimony about Jesus and for proclaiming the word of God. They had not worshiped the beast or his statue, nor accepted his mark on their foreheads or their hands. They all came to life again, and they reigned with Christ for a thousand years.

Hello Friday! What a difference a week makes in Missouri weather. Last Friday folks were doing their best Paul Simon impersonation of “Slip Sliding Away”. We all know someone who experienced multiple hours on the highway for what is typically measured in minutes. The last couple of days reminded us that spring is just around the corner and with it the joy of being outside mowing grass. If you are one of those folks who can’t seem to get enough joy from mowing your own yard, then consider joining the SunRise mowing team. Help keep our campus grounds beautiful and welcoming to those checking us out for the first time. For more information send an email to info@sunrisefamily.org and we will give you the low down and how to catch a little Seals and Croft “Summer Breeze”.

Today we return to verse four after our almost weeklong diversion into a millennialism conversation. John observes in his vision thrones occupied by those designated to have authority to judge. Obliviously the location of these thrones has taken John’s eyes back to a heavenly setting. Th occupants of the thrones are not readily identified by John, nor who they judged or what the resulting verdicts were. Some folks suggest the judges are the early martyrs of the faith while others believe them to be the twelve apostles. Some folks make a connection back to the Old Testament book of Daniel 7, who describes a similar scene - both thrones and judges – with a heavenly court of angelic beings as the judges sitting on the thrones. Best stated is that there is insufficient information to draw a positive identification or conclusion on this first part of verse four.
