Good Friday to you – although the real Good Friday is still a few weeks away. In our pick verse today, John continues to paint the picture of God’s judgment on humanity. Death and Hades in the book of Revelation are always personified as evil twins that swallow up all humanity, even believers in Jesus. In this time of final judgement when they have been relieved of all the corpses they were holding, they will themselves finally be deposited into the lake of fire. In 1 Corinthians 15:26, the apostle Paul had also prophesied of this moment when he states, “the last enemy to be destroyed is death”. The second death into the lake of fire is reserved for those who have continually rejected the message of Jesus.
