Happy Thursday to you! Only a few tickets remain for the SunRise Movie Night on Sunday March 24th. Our pick movie for our spring night out is “Ordinary Angels”, A faith-based movie about a struggling hairdresser who finds a renewed sense of purpose when she meets a widowed father working hard to care for his two daughters. With his youngest critically ill and waiting for a liver transplant, the fierce woman single-handedly rallies an entire community to help. Please consider joining us for this truly heartwarming story – oh and bring your own tissues. To reserve your tickets, go to the “Events” page through either the SunRise App or website.

In our pick verse today, John’s focus now turns to the supporting structures of the wall for the new city of Jerusalem. A city’s wall, or any building, is only as secure as its foundations. The perfect security of New Jerusalem is declared in the number twelve. Each layer of foundation stones is inscribed, but this time with the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb. While not specifically named we can only imagine them to hold the names of the apostles listed in scripture. One big question comes with who the twelfth apostle is named on the last stone. Biblical scholars are almost entirely in agreement that it is not Judas because of his having betrayed Jesus. So, the debate remains between Matthias who was elected in the first chapter of Acts to replace Judas, or Paul who was self-declared an apostle in the opening words of many of his epistles. If we believe that scripture is God’s word given to us through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, then Paul’s use of the term is God-ordained and must factor into his potential place on a stone. I don’t think it really matters for our salvation, although it does make for some great theological debates. What is more important is that this part of John’s vision is clear testimony that in eternity resurrected souls will include both Old and New Testament saints on an equal basis.
