21:18) The wall was made of jasper, and the city was pure gold, as clear as glass.

Welcome to Saturday! The first weekend in spring 2024 has arrived for us to enjoy and I hope you are able to make the best out of God’s gift to us. This is also the sixth week of the season of Lent and culminates with the tradition of Jesus entering Jerusalem on what we call Palm Sunday. Week six of Lent also means another characteristic of Jesus to add as we shape our lives to be like Him. This week we will focus on the “Mission Of Jesus”. In our pick verses today, John now offers a tour of the exterior of the city so that we may take in the magnificent sights of the various materials with which the city was constructed. The wall itself was constructed of jasper stone, while the city itself was that of pure gold – not just regular gold but that which was clear as glass. The materials forming the foundation (which was exposed above ground) were twelve precious jewels that held a resemblance to the twelve stones affixed to the chest-piece of the High Priest. We can only imagine how the sight John was observing spoke volumes of the unbelievable splendor of the city itself. God spared nothing in welcoming home His faithful. For the first century readers of John’s vision this description would be the strength they would need to endure the persecution leveled by the Roman empire. The same holds true for us today.
