Monday – January 11th – Ephesians 4:31-32
31 Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, clamor, and evil speaking be put away from you, with all malice. 32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God in Christ forgave you.
Monday – Monday. And I disagree with Karen Carpenter that neither rainy days nor Mondays get me down. For me, Mondays signal fifty-two opportunities each year for a new beginning, a reset from the week before to do better and to get more things right in my relationship with God. How do you plan to grow in your discipleship journey this week?
Our pick verses for today conclude the fourth chapter of Ephesians and give us a great example of how we can grow in our personal discipleship. Paul uses these two verses to contrast the life of “before” and “after” in our accepting Jesus as our savior. The old life comes from a hostile heart of bitterness, it seeks its own way, speaks evil, and wishes evil on others. How do we put away all bitterness, etc.…? By letting God fill our hearts with perfect love. The new life is tenderhearted by showing itself in acts of kindness. A new life in Christ is always ready to forgive wrongs suffered from others. As we begin this new week may we all focus being a person who is easily associated with the love and grace of God.
