Wednesday – January 13th – Ephesians 5:3-5

5:3 But fornication and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be named among you, as is fitting for saints; 4 neither filthiness, nor foolish talking, nor coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks. 5 For this you know, that no fornicator, unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.
Mid-week Wednesday has arrived. How have you sought to be an imitator of Christ as you have gone through your daily activities? Would those around make a clear distinction that through your words and actions you are a full committed follower of Jesus?

Yesterday Paul opened this chapter with a call for us in all ways to reflect Jesus in our lives. In today’s verses Paul provides a list of those human activities that would be far from the likeness of Jesus. Paul’s list includes all sexual relations outside of marriage. Such sin is a shameful form of covetousness that desires another’s body merely for self-gratification. The Christians life must not be degraded by filthiness, foolish talk, or course jesters. These do not honor God nor give God thanks for redeeming us. People who chose to distort life in these ways have no inheritance with the saints, either on earth or in Heaven.
