Saturday – January 16th – Ephesians 5:11-12
5:11 And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather expose them. 12 For it is shameful even to speak of those things which are done by them in secret.
Hello Saturday and hello to the weekend! As always, the weekend means opportunities to worship with the SunRise community. The third installment of our teaching series “Childlike Faith” previews this week with a focus on God’s invitation to a great party. In-building options are at 8:30am and 10:30am with reservations confirmed at www.sunrisefamily.org/rsvp. On-line options on Facebook and the SunRise website are at 5pm Saturday, 8:00am, 9:30am, and 11am. On-demand options begin Saturday morning on the SunRise YouTube channel, the SunRise Church app and TV app. Please don’t forget to gather a group and talk over the Discipleship Discussion questions.
Our pick verses for today continues to instruct us on our intentional action of walking in the light of God. Paul’s words today are direct and to the point, but at the same time require a bit of consideration and Holy Spirit assistance to appropriately live into. Without caution and guidance from the Holy Spirit we could take these verses and quickly descend into a judgmental attitude toward others. Paul’s encourage is for us to discerningly have no fellowship with evil persons or participate in their evil actions or wickedness. We “expose”, or rebuke, evil deeds when we avoid them and let others know how God feels about them. This is where we must lean on the Holy Spirit to help us keep from bad-mouthing others, but instead to speak the truth in love. Our goal is to win souls for the Kingdom of Heaven and not point out sinful actions, by whom from our perspective are sinful people.
