Monday – January 4th – Ephesians 4:20-21

4:20 But you have not so learned Christ, 21 if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus:

Welcome to Monday! With the first Monday in the new year, we have a great view of the many possibilities and opportunities had of us. As mentioned before, 2021 at SunRise will be about growing our personal discipleship. When I hear this term, I think of growing stronger, deeper, wider, and more secure in how my faith informs my daily decisions. Back in the day when my connection to Jesus was more verbal and less relational, I was guilty of seeing life challenges through my own eyes and not through the eyes of the Holy Spirit. Often decisions made on my own were faulty and did not bring about the desired results. Discipleship at SunRise is all about tightening our Jesus connection so that our default path is Christ-centered.

Paul’s continues his teaching on our putting off, or discarding, the old person we were before our relationship with Jesus. His focus the next few days will be on how this change affects our daily living. Paul is empathic that we who “know Jesus” cannot live as those who do not know Him. To know Christ means that we have heard His wonderful words of life and then follow up by opening ourselves to His teachings on how we can effectively love God and love our neighbors. When we get those two actions right in our lives then the “old” self has no openings to race back into our lives. With the aid of the Holy Spirit, we are able to resist the urges to retreat and fall back into sinful patterns. Our new self is so much better than the old self.
