Wednesday – January 6th – Ephesians 4:23-24

23 and be renewed in the spirit of your mind, 24 and that you put on the new man which was created according to God, in true righteousness and holiness.
Hello Wednesday!  This middle of the week also signals halfway through the first full week of 2021. Of course, then, I do not need a calendar to remind me we are in the first week of a new year. Seeing dozens of new faces over the last few days at the fitness center is the best reminder of all. This is the time of year when new goals are established. This morning as I gazed out over those on a new quest, my deep hope is that I will see those same faces in February, July, September, and even in December. The same goes for those of you who are embarking on new steps on your discipleship journey. My prayer is that what you are doing this week will become a blessed and fruitful habit in the months to come.  One of the surest ways for long-term success at the fitness center is to have an accountability partner. The same works wonders for our discipleship growth. Who have you invited to be part of our discipleship growth team?

The third installment of Paul’s thought on how we exchange the old self for our new life in Christ continues today. Paul introduces the concept of the “spirit of your mind” which can be defined as the ground floor of our Christian character. The human spirit is to be transformed by the power of the Holy Spirit. No matter how hard we try this new humanity is not achieved by our human efforts but is only created by the work of God through Jesus. By God’s power we can now live-in true righteousness and holiness. I really need to hear and put into practice all of Paul’s extended conversation about being a new creation in Christ, especially as a new year symbolically ushers in new beginnings.

Blessings
