Thursday – January 21st – Ephesians 5:25-27

5:25 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her,
26 that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word,
27 that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.

Happy Thursday to you! Pray that your week is going well, and you are discovering endless opportunities to be a powerful and positive representative for the Kingdom of Heaven.

Thanks for coming back for part-2 today in our dissection of Paul’s current sub-section on Christian wives and husbands. Yesterday’s verses are probably the most known and debated from within this ten-verse teaching. If we only focus on the three verses from yesterday, we can easily get caught up in a demonic trap of taking the bigger picture of scripture out of context resulting in a rash and inaccurate application. Today’s verses begin to build the foundation that yesterday’s verses must sit upon. When Paul instructs husbands to “love your wives”, this is a strong, strange, and entirely new commandment for the culture of his day. This idea of really loving your wife was unknown and not practiced by either Romans, Greeks, or other pagan groups. Then to add that that love is the same as Christ had for the church moves it up several notches. Jesus did not love the church because of our beauty or our holiness. He sacrificed His life unselfishly to make us holy and beautiful in the Kingdom of Heaven.  When a Christian husband loves in the manner of Christ, any authoritarian or forceful relationship is replaced by a mutual loving relationship wherein the husband is willing to sacrifice everything and anything at a moment’s notice for the protection and well-being of the wife. That my friends, is God’s plan for a Christian marriage!
Blessings
