Sunday - February 14th – Philippians 1:9-11

1:9 And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in knowledge and all discernment,
10 that you may approve the things that are excellent, that you may be sincere and without offense till the day of Christ,
11 being filled with the fruits of righteousness which are by Jesus Christ, to the glory and praise of God.

Daily Walk Bible thought for today:

WHITEWASHING THE PUMP WILL NOT PURIFY THE WATER.*

Welcome to Sunday!  Batten down the hatches and stoke up the fire as the next 24-48 hours will be a real blast of winter complete with snow and fridge temperatures. Look for ways today to challenge yourself to be intentional in growing deeper in your faith. The thought of sitting next to the fire and reading scripture sounds very inviting. Maybe calling and checking on others to make sure they are warm and safe would be a great way to put faith into action. There are many ways to grow and to serve even in extreme weather conditions – and as you do you will be a blessing to others.

In our pick verses for today, Paul attempts to encourage the Philippian believers in much the same way our challenge above does for us. Paul speaks to the power of knowledge and discernment as possessing information about God’s truth and the sound judgement that is required in applying it. When our love for others is guided by knowledge and discernment it enables us to make right choices in all situations. When we are intentional in connecting with Jesus and He is alive in our lives we will experience the fruits of God’s righteousness. These fruits parallel the fruit of the Spirit in Galatians 5:22-23. Without this fruit we Christians cannot bring proper glory or praise to God. May not be a bad idea to go back and refresh ourselves on the fruit we receive as a believer.

Blessings
