Saturday – February 27th – Philippians 2:9-11

2:9 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth,
11 and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Saturday’s Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought:
PERFECT CONFORMITY TO THE WILL OF GOD AS THE SOLE SOVEREIGN IS PERFECT LIBERTY.*

Happy Saturday to you! I hope you have weekend plans that include fun, excitement, and outdoor activities.  But I hope you also leave some time for an opportunity for both worship and discipleship discussion. With all the options that compete for our time, attention, and thoughts the one that is most important when the dust settles, and our earthly time is complete, is the decision we have made to be connected to the transformative work of Jesus.

In our pick verses for today Paul brings to a close this early Christian hymn while laying the foundation for the heart of the salvation message. It is the incarnate, crucified, and risen Jesus whose deity is revealed by being given the divine name that exceeds all other names. Paul’s statement that every knee shall bow is the one-day universal recognition of Jesus’ lordship and authority in Heaven. At that time, all creation – human, angelic, or demonic - will willingly or unwillingly acknowledge Jesus as Lord. This is not to say Paul is advocating a universal salvation but even those who have rejected Jesus will, at the end times, realize the error of their decision. In verse eleven, “every tongue”, is a parallel to his “every knee” reference in verse ten. When we confess Jesus as Lord, we acknowledge Jesus’ true identity as almighty sovereign. When we individual acknowledge Jesus’ lordship we bring glory to God and God’s perfect plan of salvation for humanity. It is a reminder that we are not able to right ourselves with God on our own merit or ability. We worship God because it is through God’s grace we have been forgiven and welcomed into Heaven.

Blessings
