Tuesday – March 9th – Philippians 3:2-3 ----
3:2 Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the mutilation!
3 For we are the circumcision, who worship God in the Spirit, rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh,
Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
IF SEEING IS BELIEVING, THE TRUE SKEPTIC REFUSES TO LOOK.”
Good Tuesday to you! I pray you are off to a great start this week. Last night we celebrated with the SunRise confirmation class as they shared their testimony of faith and belief in Jesus. It is always exciting to see those who have weighed the evidence and have accepted God’s lifetime offer for grace and forgiveness. Their journey as fully committed followers of Jesus is just now starting. They would welcome your prayers in the days ahead as the evil one attempts to sow seeds of doubt, discouragement, or disbelief. We understand – we have all been there.
We could almost say Paul is speaking to the believers in Philippi as if they are a new set of confirmands ready for the first steps of their faith journey. It was readily known that false teachers threatened the stability of the church in Philippi, not unlike every other place church existed - both then and now. Paul’s triple repetition of “beware” for the Philippians his way of emphasizing the seriousness of this matter. One of the warnings focus on mutilation. Besides other external acts of false worship these false teachers evidently practiced physical circumcision while denying its complete transformation of the heart through a relationship with Jesus. By contrast, Paul states that Christians are God’s people because they receive the indwelling of the Holy Spirit. They rejoice in their salvation provided to them by Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection. Because of this assurance they have no confidence in trying to earn their salvation through works, words, rituals, requirements, or regulations. Faith comes from believing in Jesus and accepting His invitation to discipleship.
Blessings
