2 To the saints and faithful brethren in Christ who are in Colosse: Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for Tuesday:
A PERSON BECOMES WISE BY OBSERVING WHAT HAPPENS WHEN HE OR SHE ISN’T.*

Welcome to Tuesday, to springtime, and to a world of new beginnings. Today’s inspirational thought has caught my eye as a growth opportunity for my personal discipleship walk. In my personal reading through the Bible this week I am in the latter sections of 1 Kings. I am reading story after story of kings who banked way too much on their own wisdom and not nearly enough on the readily available wisdom of God. As a result, almost every king did evil in the eyes of the Lord. My take-away is that I need to spend a lot more time silently observing this week as a way to increase my wisdom. Which in turn means I need to do a lot less talking and resist throwing out my opinion.

In our pick verses today, we begin a new letter to a new faith community, but in the process keep the familiarity of Paul as the author of this epistle. As is the custom in the beginning verses of his writings, Paul introduces himself by the title of apostle, a way which stress the authority he has received from God to represent the Kingdom of Heaven on earth. At the same time Paul acknowledges the recipients in Colosse as being saints in the faith. This expression connects them within their individual relationship with God and lifts up their relationship with other believers. Another of Paul’s typical openings include the words “grace” and “peace”.  Grace suggests what we possess is a true gift from God, while peace is the ongoing sense of well-being that flows from God’s gift of grace. The real blessing is that Paul would say the same about our relationship status with God if he were writing to us today. Our part is to live like we have been called.

Blessings
