Tuesday – April 13th – Colossians 1:15 -----
1:15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
Tuesday’s Daly Walk Bible inspirational thought:
THE DEGREE OF OUR SPIRITUAL VIGOR HAS MUCH TO DO WITH HOW MUCH TIME WE SPEND IN GOD’S WORD.*
Today we welcome to our calendars Tuesday as we slowly approach the mid-point of the month of April. Today’s inspirational thought is a great reminder of the importance of our focus on personal discipleship growth. The more we stay connected with God’s word the closer we become to knowing the heart of God. And when we ready, study, and allow the Holy Spirit to pour into us the meaning of scripture the better able we are to live out God’s will for our lives. However, when we read scripture filled with critique, criticism, or an agenda to disprove, we will lose out on truly understanding that God’s greatest gifts of love and grace come at times through our being convicted of our missteps and guided back into a right relationship with God. In case you need a refresher of what happens when we set God’s word aside take a few minutes to read through 2 Kings in the Old Testament.
In our pick verse today, Paul begins a new sub-section in this first chapter of his letter to the believers in Colosse. In this opening verse Paul emphasizes that Jesus is exactly like God, so if we know who/what Jesus is then we know what God is like. Paul’s reference to Jesus being the “firstborn” does not mean that Jesus was “born” to the Father, but as the firstborn in Jewish tradition, a son had certain preeminence in the family order. With this in mind, Paul states that Jesus has all authority and total preeminence over all creation. This is another great reason to spend time in the scriptures so that we “know” who Jesus is and thus we “know” God’s plan for our salvation.
Blessings
