Thursday – April 15th – Colossians 1:18 -----
1:18 And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.
Today’s inspirational thought from the Daily Walk Bible:
NEVER TRY TO MAKE YOUR SON OR DAUGHTER ANOTHER YOU; ONE IS ENOUGH.*
Today is Thursday and in any year except the last two today would also be tax-day in the US. This year we have been granted a month’s “grace” until May 15th. I always find it interesting how the world so easily adopts biblical terms, words, or concepts to be used in general language. The influence of God extends well past those who acknowledge the reality of God’s existence. Today pay extra attention to the many ways scripture makes it way into everyday life and language. If you discover something particularly interesting, please feel free to share it with us.
In our pick verse today, Paul concludes his teaching on the supremacy of Christ. He writes to the Colossian believers that Jesus is the supreme authority over the church – not the building, not a geographical location, not a denominational group, but the collectiveness of all believers. Jesus is the beginning of all things righteous; he is the continuous source of new life and transformation. At the first born from the dead, Jesus’ resurrection makes possible our future resurrection from both spiritual and physical death. We worship him because in and through all things Jesus has preeminence. And in case you are wondering - preeminence is the quality of being superior, so in the case of Jesus – God in the flesh - he reigns superior over all that exists or will exist in this world.
Blessings
