Thursday – April 22nd – Colossians 2:1-3

2:1) For I want you to know what a great conflict I have for you and those in Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh,
2) that their hearts may be encouraged, being knit together in love, and attaining to all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the knowledge of the mystery of God, both of the Father and of Christ,
3) in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
BLESS THE LORD TODAY; HE BLESSES YOU EVERY DAY.*

Welcome to Thursday and another fine spring day regardless of where you are right now. Tuesday’s snow episode was a great reminder that no matter who we are and how important we may be in our little corner of the world there are always things out of our control. Even knowing the reality of our limited influence everyone of us has at some time or another exercised our unspiritual gift of worry – spending time in thought about things we cannot or should not attempt to control. If this sounds like something you struggle with then the teaching this weekend at SunRise is tailor made just for you. In our “Common Ground” series our focus will be on worrying less and trusting more. Join us either online or in-building this weekend for great worship and fellowship. Oh and don’t forget your cup of dirt for our common ground pot.

Today in our pick verses we begin the second chapter of Paul’s letter to the Colossians. As Paul opens this chapter, he introduces a new teaching point – learning to trust Jesus and not human philosophies. Paul’s extra challenge with the Colossian believers is that he has not met them personally  but only through the reports he has received about them and the Laodicean believers. Even though he had never seen them face to face he still had a great care for their spiritual well-being. He was concerned that false teachers with selfish motives could deceive them with a less than accurate gospel. Paul wanted the Colossian’s hearts to be encouraged and established in solid teaching and a strong faith in Jesus. This would be accomplished by their being knit together in Christian love and their obtaining a full knowledge of the revealed truth of full salvation in Christ. The same holds true for us today – we need to hold fast to the truth of God’s word as our way of staying connected to God’s will and way for our lives.

Blessings
