Thursday – April 29th – Colossians 2:15
2:15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
FAITH IS THE TENDRIL BY WHICH THE SOUL CLINGS TO GOD.*
Happy Thursday to you! Prayers that your day will be blessed beyond your expectations and your efforts. As I reflect on the inspirational thought for today it is helpful to remember this comes from reading through the Bible in a year which starts at Genesis and ends in Revelation. Currently we are in 2 Chronicles of the Old Testament where the focus is on the reigns of the kings from David to the end of the southern kingdom – a span of nearly five hundred years. Repeatedly we are told of the faith level of each of the kings during their time on the throne. Only a very small handful of the kings did right in the eyes of the Lord. How they chose to live out their faith and their willingness to completely trust God as they led their people were the marks of a soul that was uplifted by God. How we express our faith today is still an important marker and is noted in the Kingdom of Heaven.
In our pick verse for today Paul introduces to his readers another important consideration of why following Jesus is more valuable then following the philosophies of the world. These principalities and powers Paul mentions in this verse are none other than the devil and the fallen demon angels. They were convinced they had won a victory over Jesus when He was nailed to the cross and died horrific death in front of his family and followers. But Jesus’ rising from the dead made a public spectacle of them and exposed the devil’s inability to conquer the forces of the Kingdom of Heaven. As followers of Jesus, we are given the assurance that the devil will also be defeated when attention is turned to us. The closer we stay connected to Jesus the greater our protection against the forces of evil.
Blessings
