Saturday – May 1st – Colossians 2:18 ----
2:18 Let no one cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and worship of angels, intruding into those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind,
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
LITTLE MINDS ARE HAPPY TO STAY STUCK IN LITTLE RUTS, SMUGLY RESISTING CHANGE.*
Happy Saturday and Happy May Day to you and your loved ones! The month of May is always a powerful marker for me as a change of “seasons”. Flowers are blooming, gardens are growing, grass is demanding attention, trees have moved from budding to leafing. And best of all the chance of snow in O’Fallon is less that oh-so-slightly. Daylight is ever expanding and the opportunity to be outside in nature is always inviting. You get the idea – now is the time to look around and see God working overtime to bless us with a pale glimpse of what Heaven will be like. Enjoy this weekend and be sure and give God thanks for all creation.
In our pick verse for today, Paul strikes at the heart of the devil’s opposition to God’s offer of grace, forgiveness, and peace to those who follow the words of the Gospel. Paul instructs the Colossians to let no one rob them by encouraging them to accept wrong ideas of Christian teaching or living. These false teachers had elevated their religiosity through false humility to the level of fasting and other forms of self-denial that tended to bring more glory to them than to God. Additionally, Paul suggests that these false teachers were also into angel worship, of which he reminds his readers that it is impossible for angels to provide our salvation or are worthy of our worship. That alone is only in and through a relationship with Jesus. Sadly, these false teachers also liked to boast of their spiritual knowledge, but all they really had was spiritual pride. We must always be on our guard for those who even slightly adjust the gospel to fit their need, and who attempt to lead us down roads that are contrary to the word of God. Our greatest weapon is prayer, and our greatest defense is knowledge of scripture. Spend time in doing both this next week!
Blessings
