Sunday – May 2nd – Colossians 2:19    ---

2:19 and not holding fast to the Head, from whom all the body, nourished and knit together by joints and ligaments, grows with the increase that is from God.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:

Today is Sunday. Today’s inspirational quote might need a bit of reference so that is has relevance to both scripture and to our life. This thought is taken from our reading in the beginning chapters of the Old Testament book of Ezra. The storyline follows along the monumental task of rebuilding the temple in Jerusalem. Seventy years earlier the Babylonians had destroyed the entire temple, now exiles returning to the city are tasked with once again creating a location to worship God and offer sacrifices. The obstacles the builders faced were daily and often at risk to their own life, yet they persisted by keeping their eyes on their goal. Today we have the mission of sharing the Gospel with those we encounter in our lives. Of course, we will be met with obstacles and challenges as we attempt to share Jesus with others, yet we are to persist and press on toward the goal of sharing Jesus. An all-day Monday is a great place to start.

Originally, I had today’s verse coupled with yesterday’s verse, but as I looked over the subject matter in verse nineteen, I decided it warranted its own day. For many Biblical scholars, this verse lifts up the central and connecting theme for the book of Colossians – Jesus being the “head” of the church. For the Colossians, and for believers throughout the centuries, Paul teaches that it is only by securely holding onto Jesus as the perfect savior can we be “nourished and knit together” by love and through concern for one another. Our unity with Jesus enables us to grow
spiritual both as individuals and through the connectivity within the church.
