Tuesday – May 4th – Colossians 2:23 ---
2:23 These things indeed have an appearance of wisdom in self-imposed religion, false humility, and neglect of the body, but are of no value against the indulgence of the flesh.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
CONFESSION WITHOUT CHANGE IS JUST A GAME.*
Hello Tuesday! There are some days when the inspirational thought is just a thought to ponder and then there are days when it brings strong conviction and an unavoidable change to the soul. Today, I would classify it as a game-changer. A powerful and uncomfortable reminder that God wants more from me than lip service. Jesus’ death on the cross was because of what I confess. His victory over the grave provides the opportunity for me to change. The result of my confession becomes my personal choice – with the help of the Holy Spirit – to actually change the sinful pattern of my life.
Today our pick verse concludes the second chapter of Paul’s letter to the Colossian believers. Paul also brings to a close his argument on salvation that comes through the grace of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection, instead of a false salvation through acts of legalism. Keeping such rules may make us look holy on the outside, but they really lead to nothing more than arrogant self-pride. Mere outward regulations are never of value against the indulgences of the flesh. Unless our hearts have been changed, we can always find a way to keep the rules but disobey God. Nearly two-thousand years ago, Paul understood that confession without change is just a game we play with ourselves.
Blessings
