Thursday – May 6th – Colossians 3:5-7 -----
3:5 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.
6 Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience,
7 in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
TOO MANY PEOPLE PRAY LIKE LITTLE CHILDREN WHO KNOCK ON DOORS, THEN RUN AWAY.*
Hello Thursday! Today’s inspirational thought is one that in need to both ponder and consider if that describes much of my prayer life. When I pray, do I expect God to answer, or better yet do I demand that God answer exactly the way I request? Do I offer my concerns, challenges, and temptations to God and then grab them back instead of leaving them for God to deal with in my life? I think today when I pray I will hang around at the door to hear what God has to say in return.
In our pick verses from Colossians chapter 3, Paul begins a new teaching section that will encourage us to put off the old self as we take on newness through Jesus. Over the next several days Paul will explain in a practical and relevant way what it means to be dead to the ways of the world and to be risen with Christ victory over sin and death. Because our future existence is in Heaven, we are to “put to death” or fully turn away from, evil practices and human desires. In verse five the sins we struggle with are listed beginning with outward action sins and then move to attitudes of the heart. In this list, Paul places idolatry last as the most inward of sins because it puts itself squarely in the place reserved for God in our life. Because of these unconfessed and unforgiven actions, the wrath of God is directed against these sins because they ultimately destroy the lives of the people who participate in carrying them out in their life. We have the choice of participation or avoidance. When we become a new life in Christ, we set aside the old ways endorsed by the world.
Blessings
