Friday – May 7th – Colossians 3:8-9 ---
3:8 But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth.
9 Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds,
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
THE FINGER THAT POINTS THE WAY IS PART OF THE HAND THAT PROVIDES THE NEED.*
Today is a good old-fashioned springtime Friday in May. The inspirational thought for today is one that probably needs a frame of reference in order to provide clarity and intended impact. This past week our daily reading through the Bible has us in both Ezra and Nehemiah. These two Old Testament figures were responsible for overseeing the rebuilding of the Temple and the protective wall around Jerusalem. Each led a group of returning exiles from Babylon to Jerusalem at the command of God to do repair work in and on the city. God provide direction, protection, and provisions for what seemed like two impossible jobs for these men. When God sends us to do Kingdom work, God also provides all that we need to be successfully.
In our pick verses for today, Paul continues his teaching on our putting off our old self, so we have room to put on Christ. Since we have put off our old sinful character and pattens of life when we die to Christ, so now we must ride ourselves of this list of sins in verse eight which plague the self-centered person. Anger, wrath, and malice are attitudes that show themselves in acts of blasphemy and through the use of profanity. Blasphemy in this context refers to critical and slanderous talk about God. The Greek verbs translated “put off” suggest a crucial, decisive act on our part. This change in nature for the believer is not to be taken lightly or followed through haphazardly. A commitment to be a new creation in Christ requires a serious commitment and life-style change on our part.
Blessings
