Wednesday – May 12th – Colossians 3:18-21    -----

3:18 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as is fitting in the Lord.
19 Husbands, love your wives and do not be bitter toward them.
20 Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing to the Lord.
21 Fathers, do not provoke your children, lest they become discouraged.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
ONLY WHEN WE PLACE OURSELVES IN GOD’S HANDS CAN WE BRING GLORY TO HIM AND GROWTH TO OURSELVES.*

Good Wednesday to your today! Today’s inspirational statement is an exceptionally timely and relevant thought for us to hold onto as we begin the next five days of our study on the book of Colossians. I have discovered that when I step away from my rather full basket of prejudices, agendas, selfish-motives, and just plain misinformation, I am more open to understanding God’s will and way for my life. When I have attempted to hang-on and force my own perceptions into the mix I end up severely stunting my spiritual growth – often without even being aware. Hold onto our inspirational thought for today as we chart the sometimes-confusing waters of our next few pick verses.

I broke tradition today by listing four scriptures while only addressing them separately over the next few days, following today's introduction portion. The reason for this expanded time is for us to consider a both then and now rendering. These specific scriptures have a long-standing reputation of unhealthy application because of inaccurate interpretations of Paul’s intended meaning both in first century Roman Empire, as well as, twenty-first century middle America. These four verses are bracketed as a specific sub-section as Paul address Christlikeness in the home. These verses show Christians how to do everything in the home “in the name of the Lord” (v.17). All members of the household are equally responsible and accountable to Jesus. Within these four verses are two balanced pairs of important exhortations: wives to husbands, and children to fathers. It is important to read all four verses over and over again and not be tempted to land on one verse without the opportunity to see how they all fit together in a stable Christian home. Thank you for your patience and for your desire to fully understand God’s word.

Blessings
  Pastor Jim
