Monday – May17th – Colossians 3:22     ----

3:22 Bondservants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh, not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but in sincerity of heart, fearing God.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
NO ONE GIVES ADVICE WITH MORE ENTHUSIASM THAN AN IGNORANT PERSON.*

Welcome to Monday and the beginning of a new week to serve the Lord. Today’s inspiration thought brought a slight chuckle to my mind. Yesterday our readings began the journey through the book of Job. As Beth and I read through the Bible again this year it is interesting to reflect on the lens through which we read it last year. The early months of the pandemic and with “shelter in place” a part of our vocabulary, that was an interesting time to read about the suffering of Job. The ensuing months of last summer, as we read about the Israelites time after time turning their backs on the commandments of God, went a long way to paint a picture of the need for personal revival and spiritual awakening. As we begin to move through those same verse this year, my prayer is for a powerful awakening to the perfect plan of God in my life and in the lives of those who are part of this daily blog. Working together, God has called us to make a difference in the lives of people around us.

Today in our pick verse Paul moves from the discipline of Christlikeness within the Christian home to also maintaining a Christlikeness in our places of work. While our culture today has moved past “bondservants” and “slaves”, a similar principle exists between employer and employee. While Paul does not denounce the slavery of his day directly, he does instruct both bondservants/slaves and masters to treat each other as part of the Christian family. In many places throughout the New Testament, Paul and other writers, lifted up the equality of all people in the eyes of God and was what set the early Christian movement apart from other religious options of the day. These Christian principles helped to eventually put an end to slavery. According to Paul’s teachings, today’s employees should not just appear to be doing their work well, they should sincerely try to do their very best at all times out of respect for God.

Blessings
