18 This salutation by my own hand—Paul. Remember my chains. Grace be with you. Amen.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
HE WHO CAN SUPPRESS A MOMENT’S ANGER MAY PREVENT A DAY OF SORROW.*

Good Tuesday to you!  I can not pass up speaking into the inspiration thought for today. Where has this been? How much my life could be different if this were something I had read 30,40, 50+ years ago. Admittedly, it would be very easy to list the multiple times I have violated these words of instruction. Not only has my inability to remain quite created buckets of sorrow, but it has also shaken, fractured, and even broken, some long-standing relationships. On this Tuesday, I think it would be a good day to let this be my guiding thought as I enter every conversation and assess every situation. And, then start over again tomorrow.

We close out today with the last verse in Paul’s letter to the Colossian believers. As is mentioned in this verse we are reminded that Paul is a religious/political prisoner being held in Rome, awaiting a trial before the Roman Emperor. Paul is using this time to send letters of instruction and encouragement to various Christian churches throughout the empire. These early forming Christian communities needed a strong and consistent oversight from the disciples and apostles. Living in a culture that often provided a smorgasbord of religious philosophies the temptation was to pick and chose various pieces that would create a comfortable and appealing way to worship and live. Paul understood the long-term effects of adjusting the message of the Gospel to accommodate the agenda of false teachers and complacent believers. In fact, the very mention that Paul himself was signing this letter by his own hand indicates the importance of those in Colosse to understand Paul’s sincerity in what he wrote.

Blessings
