Monday – July 12th – 2 Thessalonians Introduction     -----

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
NOTHING IN THIS LOST WORLD BEARS THE IMPRINT OF THE SON OF GOD SO SURELY AS FORGIVENESS.*

Good Monday my friends and fellow blog readers. As we begin this new week, I want to focus a moment on our inspirational thought for today. Of all the challenges that come with being a follower of Jesus for me the biggest, greatest, and even toughest is in the area of forgiveness. I tend to hold onto the past way more than I should which at times can cause my blood pressure to rise and feelings of anger to take root. Jesus is the perfect example of forgiveness and as followers we are encouraged to follow in His steps. The biggest challenge for me in taking the first step toward forgiving is to swallow my pride and set aside any hurts. This doesn’t mean consequences are suddenly changed or hurts forgotten. For me forgiveness is not letting an incident or interaction take up residence in my mind and infect all future thoughts and actions.

Today we begin a new book of the Bible and a new journey of learning how we might be a better follower of Jesus. While it is a new book it is a follow up to our previous letter from Paul to the believers in Thessalonica in norther Greece. Like 1 Thessalonians, this letter was written while Paul was still in the city of Corinth about a year later in approximately 51 AD. Several of the issues Paul addressed in the first letter were still hanging around causing him to write a let’s review type of correspondence. The Thessalonian believers were still dealing with the suffering of Christians, idleness among believers, and confusion concerning Jesus’ return. This three-chapter letter was written to encourage the Thessalonians to address each of these areas as a connected community of believers. Throughout this letter Paul directly and indirectly speaks to the importance of the church to work together in unity for the purpose in which God intended. The rules of engagement as a church have not changed over the last two thousand years. We are better, healthier, and more productive for the Kingdom of Heaven when we are all heading in the same direction.

Blessings
