Friday – July 16th – 2 Thessalonians 1:7-8     -----

1:7 and to give you who are troubled rest with us when the Lord Jesus is revealed from heaven with His mighty angels,
8 in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:

THE MORE YOU THINK ABOUT CHRIST, THE MORE YOU THINK OF HIM.*

Good Friday to you! Yes, another week is almost completed, and another weekend is now in sight. A combination of our senior high youth, college students, and adults are wrapping up a very busy and fruitful week immersed in mission work in New York City. They quickly learned that in the shadows of the glitz and glitter of Times Square, Broadway, and Central Park exists hungry and hurting souls of all ages and ethnic backgrounds. I am reminded of how easily my eyes can see only what I want to see, how they can readily filter out the less than desirable sights of real life. Such limited vision can cause me to miss seeing those who need me to be a loving representative of Jesus. No matter where our weekend takes us, I am positive that when are eyes are open wide the Holy Spirit will provide opportunities to represent the one we claim to follow.

In our pick verses today, Paul concludes this long sentence of our being prepared for the second coming of Jesus and the final judgement of humanity. Paul includes angels in this future vision of Jesus’ arrival as a way to indicate the full deity of Jesus who comes with the full authority of Heaven. Verse eight is filled with references to God’ ultimate power. Fire is associated in the Bible with God’s coming in final judgement. Vengeance indicates that God will act decisively with divine justice, giving to the unrighteous what is the appropriate punishment for their conduct. Paul identifies those who have refused to know God as people who have refused to accept or obey the gospel of Jesus in their personal lives. Our calling as faithful and fully committed followers of Jesus is to do our best to share the Gospel with others. Then the response to the gospel message is left up to each individual. All that is left for us to do at that point is pray for them.

Blessings
