Monday – July 19th – 2 Thessalonians 2:1-2 -----
1 Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you,
2 not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
SIN IS THE WOMB OF OUR SORROWS AND THE GRAVE OF OUR COMFORTS.*
Welcome to Monday! I need Mondays to remind we that God gives us a regular and consistent opportunity to start new and fresh. Yes, in many respects Monday is just another twenty-four block of time, no longer or shorter that the other six days of the week. However, for me there is something special about starting a new week with the possibility for a fresh perspective and a clean slate. Our inspirational thought today also can act as a spur to motive us to not be content with today being just another day. When we grow content, comfortable or complacent, we can easily loss our passion for both life and for our calling to represent the Kingdom of Heaven. I would encourage you on this Monday to be bold, be fearless, be adventurous, be all in as a follower of Jesus.
In our pick verses today, Paul begins this new chapter with a slightly different angle on the second coming of Christ which is the heartbeat of this letter. Paul’s focus now is on the gathering of Christians to Jesus when that time does arrive. For some unknown, unstated reason the Thessalonians believed that the day of Christ’s return had already arrived. As a result, the Thessalonian believers were shaken/confused/upset either because it had not been what they expected or because they had been left out altogether. Paul was convinced that false prophets had intentionally misinterpreted scripture to promote their own personal agendas. Paul spends the next dozen verses reassuring them by describing specific events that must take place before Christ’s return. Examples like this describe why it is important for each of us to have a solid grounding in scripture so our modern-day false teachers cannot gain a foothold to promote personal agendas.
Blessings
