Monday – July 26th – BONUS Paul’s Second Coming teachings -----
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for Monday:
GOD CAN DO MORE IN A MOMENT THAN PEOPLE COULD IN A MILLENNIUM.*
Yes, my friends it is Monday once again. I will refrain from my typical Monday reminders and instead trust that you will make the best of this week for you and your circle of influence. I really needed the inspirational thought for today. The associated reading comes from the heart of the book of Isaiah wherein the prophet was one of many voices admonishing the kings of both the northern and southern kingdoms for entering into security-based treaties with neighboring countries instead of trusting in God to provide perfect protection. While this may not seem like a big deal to us today, it was in Isaiah’s time an abandonment by the kings from believing in God’s power and promises. I admit there are times when I am convinced that God is not paying attention and I need to take matters in my own hands. Today I will take a giant step back and let God run the world. You all will thank me for that.
Our bonus section today, on the Second Coming of Jesus, utilizes the transition from Paul’s warning about the “lawless one” to his encouraging the Thessalonian believers in how to live a life as a follower of Jesus. Paul’s teaching on the second coming of Jesus as found in both Thessalonian letters complement each other and paint a more complete picture of the theology of the Parousia (second coming) in the first century. Christians who had died will certainly share in the return of Christ (1 Thessalonians 4:13-18). Christians who are alive should be prepared so that Jesus’ return will not take them by surprise, as it will the unbelievers (1 Thessalonians 5:1-11), On the other hand, Christians must not think that the Second Coming has already occurred, and they have been left out. Although Jesus may come very soon, first a “lawless one” will arise to lead a great rebellion against God and God’s truth (2 Thessalonians 2:1-12). While it can be tempting to get caught up in discerning the signs of the time to fit end of the world scenarios, we instead should focus on growing our relationship with God and then strive to share the Gospel message with others.
Blessings
