Tuesday – July 27th – 2 Thessalonians 2:13-14 -----
2:13 But we are bound to give thanks to God always for you, brethren beloved by the Lord, because God from the beginning chose you for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and belief in the truth,
14 to which He called you by our gospel, for the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

In our pick verses for today Paul uses the remaining five verses of chapter two to offer thanksgiving, exhortation, and prayer for the believers in Thessalonica. From his reflection on the fate of the godless persons, Paul returns to show his deep appreciation for God’s people. The cause for thanksgiving is the salvation of the Thessalonians, planned by God from the beginning of time. It is accomplished through both sanctification by the Holy Spirit and belief in the truth. Salvation is made available through the preaching of the Gospel, and it leads to obtaining the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ at His return. Jesus’ followers who are made holy through sanctifying grace stand in sharp contrast to unbelievers who seek their “pleasure in unrighteousness” and who do “not believe the truth (v12). It is the working of the triune God who truly cleanses us from sin; we can not accomplish that for ourselves. My prayer is that you know Jesus as your savior, and you live to follow His teachings.
