Good Saturday to you on this very last day of July 2021. Yes, we only have five more months left in this year. All of us older people easily remark that we wonder where the year has gone. Over the next few weeks college students will be heading to new destinations while younger students will be finalizing their back-to-school lists. One of the greatest commodities in this life is time. We can not manufacture more time, nor can we slow down the ticks of time. We must live in the divine order of twenty-four hours in a day, and we must accept the amount of time we have here on earth as what is written for us by the hand of God. Today’s inspirational verse serves as a peaceful reminder that the best is yet to come. Life on earth is great but eternity in Heaven will even be greater. Who might you invite to join us in Heaven?
In our pick verse for today, Paul is speaking directly into the hearts of the believers in Thessalonica. Paul’s prayer is that the Lord will empower us to participate in both the love of God and the patience of Jesus. This love of God is God’s love for us in and through the work of Jesus on the cross. We respond to that by loving God and loving others. Remember we are to love the Lord with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength. And to love our neighbors as ourselves. This was the commandment Jesus hash tagged as being the greatest of all. On our behalf Jesus endured suffering with patience; through Him we too can endure the sufferings of this life as we wait for the glory of eternity in Jesus’ presence.
