Monday – August 2nd – 2 Thessalonians 3:7-9     -----

3:7 For you yourselves know how you ought to follow us, for we were not disorderly among you;
8 nor did we eat anyone's bread free of charge, but worked with labor and toil night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you,
9 not because we do not have authority, but to make ourselves an example of how you should follow us.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
     AS A NEGLECTED GARDEN TENDS TOWARD WEEDS, SO THE FAITHLESS LIFE TENDS TOWARD UNGODLY CHAOS.*

     Welcome to Monday and the first week of the month of August 2021. If you were able to catch the teaching this past weekend from our Navigating Life series, you would see how today’ inspirational thought puts an exclamation point on the main take away from the teaching. Spiritual fitness requires us to constantly and consistently be working out with our spiritual disciplines, so we stay fit and ready to represent the Kingdom of Heaven. When we take a break from our discipleship growth we actually end up, as the inspirational thought suggests, allowing the weeds of the devil to grow in the place of spiritual fruit. As we begin this new week and new month take a moment to plan out how you will keep your connection to God strong and thus avoid a life of ungodly chaos.

    Our pick verses today continue Paul’s instructions on the importance of staying focused and busy in our work for the Lord. The underlying situation Paul is addressing is not an intentional laziness on the part of some of the believers in Thessalonica, but a theological misunderstanding about the return of Jesus. Because it was a strongly belief that Jesus’ second coming was an immediate and soon to happen event some of the believers in Thessalonica decided that instead of working to provide for their needs they would wait, with an eye to the sky, watching for Jesus. Paul’s correction is that they need to focus on being an example to not-yet-believers and to follow his own example of self-support. Paul intentionally supported himself so that no one could accuse him of preaching the gospel of money or personal benefit. Our calling to share the Gospel comes from the depth of our hearts and from the experience of our being forgiven.

Blessings
