Saturday – August 21st – 1st Timothy Introduction     -----

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
DRAW A CIRCLE AND GET INSIDE, THEN PRAY GOD WILL SEND REVIVAL WITHIN THE CIRCLE.*

Good Saturday morning and welcome back from our short break from the daily scripture blog. I hope you were able to stay in the Word over the last two weeks. As we begin anew in our journey through the scriptures, I am excited about the inspirational thought for today. While it is a few weeks ahead for its time, the encouragement for personal revival is a spot-on message for us today. We can always use any opportunity to reflect on our relationship with Jesus and intentionally seek to grow as a fully committed follower. Now, why this is a little ahead of its time?  In the month of September, we will be engaged in a church wide and small group study called “Awakening”. Our desire is to create a fire of revival in the hearts of those who are connected to SunRise so that we may work together to Populate the Kingdom of Heaven. Our passion for Jesus is the result of our praying for personal and corporate revival. So, my friends get an early start and draw your circle today!  And get connected to a small group for this study. If you are outside of the shadow of the SunRise O’Fallon steeple then I will be offering an online small group study of Awakening. Email me or reply to this blog if you are interested in a virtual small group.

Today we also begin a new book in the Bible – the book of 1 Timothy. Written by the Apostle Paul around 60AD to Timothy, a young disciple discovered by Paul on his second missionary journey (Acts 16:1). Referred to by Paul as “my true son in the faith” (1Timothy 1:2), Timothy ministered side by side with Paul as a missionary and later received the challenging assignment of pastoring the church at Ephesus. Paul’s first letter to him resembles a manual for building church leadership. But more generally, it is a rich mine of principles for anyone who wishes to live a godly life and have a spiritual impact in the lives of others. The city of Ephesus presented unusual challenges to the Gospel of Jesus because it was the location of the great temple of the fertility goddess Diana. Considered one of the seven wonders of the ancient world, Diana’s temple would draw thousands of tourists to the city. Paul’s preaching of Jesus as the only way to God infuriated the local craftsmen who relied on income from Diana souvenirs as the primary source of their income. Timothy was pastoring a church in a troubled and hostile community. Of course, when the Gospel confronts the stubbornly sinful sparks will fly.

Blessings
