Good Sunday to you! Today is a great day to schedule in some time with God. It can be wherever you are today, or it can be gathered in community to worship God with a room full of other believers. Our second weekend of “It’s Your Move” will challenge each of us to consider what is real “truth” and the importance of seeking out the perfect truth that comes from God. Remember for those in the shadow of the SunRise O’Fallon steeple we now have an inbuilding 8am traditional gospel service and a 9:45am contemporary service. Our moderated online services mirror the inbuilding times on Sunday mornings. Plus, you can choose an on-demand time that fits your busy schedule on either the SunRise app (phone or tv) or on the SunRise Church YouTube channel.
Today in our pick verses we begin the New Testament book of 1 Timothy. I learned a long time ago that no book, chapter, verses, or word is wasted in scripture. Every word makes an important contribution to the whole and perfect message of God’s love for each of us. Today as we begin this new letter, we discover that Paul followed the standard opening format of ancient Greek letters: (1) identification of the sender, (2) naming the person or group addressed, (3) a brief but heartfelt greeting. In Paul’s pastoral letters he often identifies God, as well as Christ Jesus, as our “savior”. For Paul, God can also be called our savior because He is the author of our salvation. The proclamation of Christ as our eternal hope was the very heart of Paul’s message to all gentiles. No matter the audience of the Gospel message or date on the calendar Christ’s redeeming work is always our assurance of eternal joy.
