Wednesday – August 25th – 1 Timothy 1:6-7     -----

1:6 from which some, having strayed, have turned aside to idle talk,
7 desiring to be teachers of the law, understanding neither what they say nor the things which they affirm.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
IT’S WHEN WE RUB SHOULDERS WITH SOMEONE THAT WE DISCOVER WHAT THAT PERSON HAS UP HIS OR HER SLEEVE.*

Yes, my friends today is Wednesday and yes it is the middle of the last full week in August. Wow where has the year gone? It seemed like only yesterday we happily turned the page to 2021 and thankfully left behind 2020. Now we are celebrating the 238th day of this year. Before long, our thoughts will turn to fall sports, pumpkin laced drinks, raking leaves, and counting days until Christmas. Yes, life goes by fast and then even faster as you gather more trips around the sun. The one thing to remember is that in all that changes throughout the seasons, God’s love and grace remain the same. If we complain that God has changed, we better look at how we have changed to create that feeling of distance.

In our pick verses today, Paul continues his warnings against the false teachers in Ephesus. Paul cautions that getting caught up in arguing about details of the Bible can send us off on interesting but often irrelevant tangents and ultimately cause us to miss the intent of God’s blessings through scripture. The false teachers at Ephesus constructed vast speculative systems and then argued about the minor details of their wholly imaginary ideas. This was a simple way to make the teaching so complex and confusing that few would make the effort to argue or disagree. We should allow nothing to distract us from the main point of Scripture which is the Good News of salvation in and through Jesus Christ. We should be intentional in knowing what the Bible says, apply it to our daily life, and teach it to others. When we do this, we will be able to evaluate all teachings in light of the central truth about Jesus. Don’t get caught up on the minute details of the Bible to the exclusion of the main point God is teaching us.

Blessings
