Monday – September 6th – 1 Timothy 3:4-5     -----

3:4 one who rules his own house well, having his children in submission with all reverence
5 (for if a man does not know how to rule his own house, how will he take care of the church of God?);

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
      THE JUDGMENT OF GOD SHALL TURN TOPSY-TURVY THE JUDGMENTS OF PEOPLE.*

    Good Monday morning and good Labor Day celebration to you! While this is still technically the first day of a new week it is also a holiday Monday and many of you are probably away from your work environment today. I would remind you that being a follower of Jesus has no days off. We “labor” on-behalf of the Lord twenty-four/seven – three hundred and sixty-five days a year. Someone is always looking at how we live and what we say as a professing follower of Jesus. As we begin our “Awakening” series and church-wide study this week we are seeking to go where we may have never been before – closer to the heart of God. I hope you are excited as I am about our study and the revival we are praying for at SunRise.

   In our reading today, we consider two more verses of Paul’s instructions for leadership in the church. Here Paul equates a leader’s ability to lead in a little (at home) and how that will then translate to leading in a lot (at church). I must admit that I smiled at Paul’s comparison of raising children as a sign of competent leadership. If being successful is keeping my children’s “nose to the religious grindstone”, then on more than one occasion I would have been disqualified for church leadership. However, I have found comfort in Proverbs Twenty-Two where I am reminder that I am to train up a child in the way they should go – and when they are old. they will not depart from it. I have also found this true in church leadership – it is impossible, improbably, and just plain silly to think we can control the thoughts, words, or actions of others. What I take away from these two verses is that great skill is needed in dealing with people, assisted by the Holy Spirit, in both the home and in the church. This is a constant growing edge for me – thank you for your patience.

Blessings
