Saturday – September 18th – 1 Timothy 5:5-7     -----

5:5 Now she who is really a widow, and left alone, trusts in God and continues in supplications and prayers night and day.
6 But she who lives in pleasure is dead while she lives.
7 And these things command, that they may be blameless.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
TRUSTING GOD IS NOT FAITH WITHOUT EVIDENCE; IT IS COMMITMENT WITHOUT RESERVATION.*

Welcome to Saturday and to a beautiful weekend. We are wrapping up our first week of our “Awakening” church-wide study, and what an awesome first week it has been. I hope you are part of one of our many small groups meeting to read the book “Revival Rising” and to discus the meaning of being awakened by the Holy Spirit. If by chance you missed out in joining a group, I am offering to start a new online group on Tuesday nights where we will go back to the beginning of the series as our starting point. If you are interested, please email me at jdblue@sunrisefamily.org.

In our pick verses today, Paul continues his instructions to Timothy on ministering to the widows in the church at Ephesus. Earlier in verse three Paul had identified a “real” widow as those who have no relatives to support them. In verse five Paul states that a real widow trusts fully in God and engages in a special ministry of intercessory prayer on behalf of the church community. On the other hand, Paul believes that those widows whose focus is on worldly matters and is self-indulgent should be characterized as spiritually dead in their sins. Paul’s desire is for all believers to maintain a good reputation for themselves and for the witness of the church. What a timely reminder from Paul that our own actions will also reflect upon the church and the witness of the church out into the community.

Blessings
