6:6 Now godliness with contentment is great gain.
7 For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
8 And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content.

The Daily Walk Bible Inspirational thought for today:
THE PROPHETS LAID BARE THE MORAL AND SPIRITUAL CONDITION OF THE NATION.*

Welcome to Monday. I am going to jump right and share my initial comment from our inspirational thought for today – OUCH!!  As Beth and I are winding up our reading of the Old Testament prophets as we read through the Bible this year, I have picked up on a theme concerning the prophets. The acceptance and likeability of these folks were on the extremely low end of the scale. Our inspirational thought reveals the reason behind their dismal place on the popularity scale. Anytime moral and spiritual deficiencies (which are actually inseparable) are exposed, we tend to despise the messenger. Prophets – way back then or even today – that speak the word of God to a lost and dysfunctional people will receive pushback and rejection. However, for a prophet to remain silent is to disobey God and walk away from their calling. No one likes to be unliked, but if the choice is between keeping you happy in your sins or being faithful to God - God should win every time all the time. I wonder what the prophets would say to our nation, our society, our culture, our community, our church, or our homes today?

In our pick verses today, Paul focuses on God’s promise of spiritual contentment that is available to all believers. True spiritual contentment will then produce material contentment in and through the blessings God has provided and continues to provide. Material contentment should be one of our goals of spiritual growth because it keeps us from the temptations caused by worldly covetousness. In the end material things are only for this life on earth and have no presence in Heaven. To be content we must keep our spiritual values in the right order – with God first in all things. When we allow the priorities of our lives to move God from the top of our list then we can be caught up in the tempting of the evil one for us to seek after desires of this world.

Blessings
