Wednesday – September 29th – 1 Timothy 6:11 -----
6:11 But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness.
The Daily Walk Bible thought to ponder for today:
LET US PRAY NOT FOR LIGHTER BURDENS BUT FOR STRONGER BACKS.*
Welcome to Wednesday! Another mid-week marker has arrived as we near the end of September 2021. It seems our inspirational thoughts from the Daily Walk Bible are on a roll. Yet, another ah-ha thought for us to embrace as part of our discipleship journey. I admit most of my prayers fall more into the category that if answered would make my life easier. If I am honest there is not much discipleship growth when things are going my way. The devil tempts is to take credit for the good things and blame then God for the bad things. As we are praying for an awakening in our lives, we need to be prepared that stronger backs may be needed to shoulder the burdens as God opens our eyes to what is happening in our small corner of the world. May we continue to pray today for God to awaken us and use us for Kingdom purposes.
In our pick verse today, Paul gives Timothy a stern directive on living his life as a leader in the church and as a fully committed follower of Jesus. Paul encourages him to flee the things named in verses nine and ten that have the potential to trip us up as followers of Jesus. Timothy, as a believer, is instead challenged to pursue qualities of life and character suitable for the resume of both a Christian and a pastor. Righteousness and godliness refer to our cultivating proper relationships with others and with God. Faith and love are the supreme Christian virtues that need to be evident in our walk, our talk, and our actions. Patience can mean both endurance in the face of life’s difficulties, as well as mercy extended to people who challenge us. Gentleness is especially necessary for all who seek to guide others to deeper levels of the Christian life. Which of these virtues need your attention today, so that others will be blessed by knowing you?
