Wednesday – October 13th – 2 Timothy 1:13-14 -----
1:13 Hold fast the pattern of sound words which you have heard from me, in faith and love which are in Christ Jesus.
14 That good thing which was committed to you, keep by the Holy Spirit who dwells in us.

Good Wednesday to you! I pray that your mid-week check in is one that reveals a bounty of great fruit for the Kingdom of Heaven. As Wednesday has arrived I like to reflect on the first two days of this week and take inventory of the times my actions and words may have benefited the cause of Jesus. Have I taken the time to let the light of Jesus shine through me in my interactions with others? Have I spoken words and used tones in my voice that have uplifted others in their daily walk? Have I put the needs of others ahead of my personal wants and desires? These evaluation questions could easily continue, but I think we all get the idea that being a fully committed follower of Jesus requires us to set aside self and think of others first. Prayers for all of us as we move into the second half of this week.
Our pick verses today begin a new teaching section for Paul in this second letter to Timothy. Today Paul introduces the need for endurance in our Christian walk. Paul opens verse thirteen with the instruction for us to “hold fast”. The apostle has laid the groundwork for Timothy to embrace his task of building his faith on the rock-solid foundation of Jesus. It is important for us to not only maintain correct doctrine, but to do so in faith and love which comes only from our relationship with Jesus. In verse fourteen, Paul calls this truth the “good thing” which he describes as the essential truths of the Gospel. These truths have been committed to Timothy as a trust to preserve and pass on without error. He can do this only by the special indwelling of the Holy Spirit in his life and ministry. Friends, we have the same “truth” to share today and the same Holy Spirit that will keep us on the path of right teachings.
