Saturday – October 16th – 2 Timothy 2:1-2     -----

2:1 You therefore, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus.
2 And the things that you have heard from me among many witnesses, commit these to faithful men who will be able to teach others also.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
WHEN YOU PRAY, MAKE SURE YOUR WILL IS IN NEUTRAL SO GOD CAN SHIFT IT.*

Welcome to Saturday! Your weekend has begun!  At SunRise our weekend is focused on our 2022 commitment series “Eccentric”. We are challenging people to be different than the status quo mindset of the rest of the world and instead embrace an eccentric lifestyle that is centered on following Jesus above all else. Personal commitments for 2022 in discipleship growth, financial generosity, and volunteer service form the backbone of the ministries and missions at SunRise. Our online campus, our remote campuses, and our inbuilding campus all depend upon the prayerfully discerned commitments of those who call SunRise their home. You can read about each volunteer need and fill out an online commitment card by going to www.sunrisefamily.org/commitment

As we begin a new chapter in 2 Timothy, the author of this letter, Paul continues with his theme of encouragement and instruction to his young mentee. Paul’s relationship with Timothy went deep. Little is known of Timothy’s biological father, but most biblical scholars are convinced that he was not a follower of Jesus. Paul’s role as a mentor of Timothy was grounded in his connection as his spiritual father in the faith. From his close relationship, Paul knew Timothy needed to be strengthened spiritually. Paul points to the reality that such help always comes through our intentionally drawing closer to God. Paul’s focus is for Timothy and other church leaders to preserve the Christian teachings for each succeeding generation to hear. Those chosen for this responsibility must be faithful to the truth and be able to share their faith openly. I am convinced that every follower of Jesus has been chosen by God to accept this responsibility as part of their faith journey. Some may be called to thousands throughout their life and others maybe one or two. Who has God called you to mentor in the faith? To whom is God calling you to share your faith?

Blessings
