2:20 But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and silver, but also of wood and clay, some for honor and some for dishonor.
21 Therefore if anyone cleanses himself from the latter, he will be a vessel for honor, sanctified and useful for the Master, prepared for every good work.
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
WHEREVER YOU SEE PERSECUTION, TRUTH IS OFTEN ON THE PERSECUTED SIDE.*
Happy Wednesday! What a sobering and yet comforting inspirational thought today. While we don’t experience the same kind of persecution the early followers of Jesus endured, nor do we here in the US experience persecution in the same form as others around the world, nonetheless anytime we are rejected or harassed for our willingness to follow Jesus we are persecuted. The comforting part of this thought is that we are standing on God’s side of the spiritual warfare equation. It is also comforting to know that when we are on God’ side we also are under the full power and protection of the Kingdom of Heaven. We may still be called to suffer, but at least it is for a cause that can move mountains, transform lives, and ultimately defeat the forces of evil. Who among us don’t want to be in the winning side?
In our pick verses today, Paul also speaks sobering words of reality about the composition of the church in his day that carries over into our day. Paul states that the church is built on the solid foundation of Jesus as the savior of the world. However, every church gathering houses people of various kinds – some good like a house with silver and gold vessels, others regrettably unworthy like vessels of wood and clay. Anyone who has been around a church congregation very long knows the reality of Paul’s illustration of the human nature of people. The good news is that through our total submission to Jesus we have the opportunity to be cleansed and restored. Personal holiness is a necessary prerequisite for Kingdom work and as the distinguishing identifier of being a vessel of honor. The purpose of being sanctified (cleansed) by the Spirit of God is to make us useful to the Master for work on behalf of the Kingdom of Heaven. The best way to assess the type of vessel we might be within our local church is to honestly answer the question – what would my church be like if ever member were like me?
Blessings
