Friday – October 29th – 2 Timothy 24-26     -----

2:24 And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient,
25 in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth,
26 and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.

The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
WE MUST GIVE NOT ONLY WHAT WE HAVE; WE MUST ALSO GIVE WHAT WE ARE.*

Yay!!! Friday is here meaning the weekend is just around the corner. This last weekend in October signals the beginning of a fast-paced rush through the holiday season and before you know it, we have arrived at 2022. Our inspirational thought today is spot on for the home stretch of our Commitment 2022 campaign at SunRise. Yes, one of the aspects of any commitment is to have a gauge on the collective financial commitment of a congregation for the coming year. We are only as strong as what folks pledge to give to support the ministries and missions of the church. However, our inspirational thought takes this a step further to remind us that the foundation of any commitment is a full-on giving of who we are as a response to God’s gift of salvation. 2022 at SunRise has the potential to be the best year in our 32-year history as community of faith-filled believers. Your individual commitment to stand-up and be counted is needed to help lead us into the new normal God has for SunRise in 2022. Online commitment cards can be easily accessed at www.sunrisefamily.org/commitment

In our pick verses today, we close out this second chapter in Paul’s second letter to Timothy, the pastor for the church in Ephesus. Paul also concludes this round of instructions concerning the ongoing challenge of false teachers and teachings within the Ephesian church. As followers of Jesus, we are encouraged to avoid the temptation to quarrel with those who promote false teachings. The proper attitude of the Lord’s servant contrasts with that of the false teachers by our willingness to be gentle in our disagreements and interactions. When Timothy has opportunity to correct those who oppose the truth, it is to be done with humility and a goal for their repentance. Just like the prodigal son who came to his senses in the middle of the pig pen, so Paul hopes the false teachers will realize they have been blinded to the truth of God. Having allowed themselves to be taken captive and then do the bidding of Satan, these false teachers can only be set free by their accepting the truth of the Gospel. If you know someone who is being led astray with an off-based version of the gospel, stop and put them at the top of your prayer list today so that they might come to their senses.

Blessings
