Monday – November 8th – 2 Timothy 4:3-4     -----

4:3) For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers;
4) and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.

 The inspirational though for today from the Daily Walk Bible:
       OUR SENSE OF SIN IS IN PROPORTION TO OUR NEARNESS TO GOD.*

       Welcome to Monday and the start of a new week of opportunities and adventures. Once again, our inspirational thought and our scripture verse align with great precision. I wish I could say that I am smart enough to make that happen, but as in all things it is God working to instill in us the power of His way and word. We can all probably attest to the accuracy of this inspirational thought in our own lives. Temptation has a greater pull and sin is more easily accomplished the looser my connection to God. When I feel the closest to God is when the devil has little, if any, influence over me. The truth of the matter is that our decision to be close to God is a personal choice that only we can make for ourselves. My prayer for you today is to begin this week with a commitment to draw near to God and laugh in the devil’s face when temptation comes your way.

      In our pick verses today, we receive some of Paul’s best advice and sternest warnings of all his writings. Paul is an excellent observing of human nature and an informed student of history. The history of humanity is littered with story after story of our desires to rule ourselves and control everything around us. From the garden of Eden to the closing words of the book of Judges – “in those days there was no king and everyone did what was right in their own eyes” we humans have wanted it our way. Paul speaks into every generation when he states that the truth about God will be rejected and replaced with words that support personal agendas and the latest fad of societal thinking. While this warning is not new, the church continues to survive under the leadership of the Holy Spirit. Sadly, the wake of these false teachings robs the faith of countless believers in the process. If we fail to study and believe what is in God’s word, then we become vulnerable to being duped by those who would rather tickle our ears then save our souls.

Blessings
