 Tuesday – November 16th – Titus introduction     -----
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
Good and blessed Tuesday to you! I am not sure how your Monday might have gone, but mine seemed like it was over in the blink of an eye. I think I was highly productive on Monday by getting a lot of irons starting to warm in the fire for this week. If the rest of the week is like Monday than I will have accomplished a lot of things on my need to do list. How does you list look this week? Is there time reserved to enjoy the beauty of God’s creation? Are there spots on your calendar saved for your loved ones? How much time have you set aside to spend alone with God and also surrounded by a group of believers? No matter what the schedule looks like may you always be a blessing to others in all that you say and do.

Today we spend a few minutes cracking opening another book of the Bible. Our focus over the next several days will be Paul’s three-chapter letter to Titus written in approximately 64AD around the same time as Paul wrote 1 Timothy. Much like Timothy, Titus was a newly appointed church leader who Paul is encouraging and instructing in this role. Titus lived among a people who had one of the worst reputations in the world. He was organizing and shepherding the new believers on Crete, one of the largest islands in the Mediterranean. Paul first writes to authorize him for role as spiritual leader, and then to instruct him in it how to fill this role in a way that please God. Titus is to appoint spiritual leaders as elders and to promote sound teaching. False teachers should be quickly detected and removed, and all believers must be encouraged to live lives that reflect the gospel. The epistle to Titus is known for its emphasis on sound and wholesome teaching that leads to holy living.*  We can learn a lot from this book about human nature and how we can help our community of faith stand firm in the face of false teachings.
