Wednesday – December 29th – Hebrews 1:2-3 -----
2:2 For if the word spoken through angels proved steadfast, and every transgression and disobedience received a just reward,
3 how shall we escape if we neglect so great a salvation, which at the first began to be spoken by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who heard Him,
The Daily Walk Bible inspirational thought for today:
THOSE WHO LOVE EVIL MAY OPPOSE GOD’S WAYS, BUT THEY CANNOT ESCAPE HIS WRATH.*
Happy Wednesday to you! Our inspirational thought for today seems to fit nicely with our scripture teaching from Hebrews warning us to resist the temptation to drift away from our faith. Over the course of my years in ministry I have observed lots of folks who, like the song “Slow Fade”, gradually - almost unnoticeably - drift away from the passion they once had for their personal spiritual development. Others I have observed, have sadly experienced a challenge or obstacle in their life and as a result immediately bolted away from their faith. The reality is that fast or slow any absence from God aligns us with the evil forces that oppose God. This is not an inescapable place where we are stuck for the remainder of our life. God is always waiting on us to come to our senses followed by our desire to be in right relationship with Him. Less than a week ago we celebrated the birth of Jesus our Savior. He is the one who has power and authority to remove our sin and restore us back into a right connection with God.
As mentioned above, the author of Hebrews is challenging us to stay connected to the power that comes from God as our preventive method to avoid drifting away. The “word” spoken by the angels refers to the message of God the angles had delivered to Moses. A central theme of this book is that Christ is infinitely greater than all other proposed ways to God. The author is saying that the faith of his Jewish readers is good, but true faith will always point to the saving graces of Jesus. Just as Jesus is greater than the angels, so His message is more important than theirs. As a fitting “reward” no one will be able to escape God’s punishment if they are indifferent to the gift of salvation offered by God.
Blessings
